At The Cross

At The Cross

I know a place, a wonderful place
Where accused and condemned
Find mercy and grace
Where the wrongs we have done
And the wrongs done to us
We’re nailed there with Him
There on the cross

I’m quick to identify with the idea of complete forgiveness and full restoration when it comes to my sin being nailed to the cross. The wrongs I have done completely wiped from the page. Rock.

But then there’s that next line:

…And The Wrongs Done To Us…

I’ve struggled thru it, moved past it and gone on my way. ..feeling a little triumphant and patting myself on the back for being an “overcomer” stronger now that I am on the other side of the trial.

And yet when I honestly look back, it’s not so much forgiveness as it is that I’ve just written people off and gone on with my life.

Framed like that it looks less like forgiveness and more like hardening my heart. And now all that pain isn’t forgiven and gone, it’s just shoved over into the corner quietly tangled up in unforgiveness. And so it’s clear that I need to forgive, and I need forgiveness – again.

I don’t want all this mess between me and God. I want Him to hear me, and I want to hear Him.
And the best part is that He wants the same thing. He wants to hear me, and bless me and hang out with me. And He’s made a way for that to happen. At the cross.
